Targeted the audience by looking at those who would often frequent many of
the Comic bookstores and conventions as well as factoring the age of the
audiences who would have watched the film in question from its original
release date that being September of 1981 in the United Kingdom.
o Our
strategy we used was successful because we now have a fully concreate plan
and layout to the audience whom we will try to advertise and gauge the films
advertisements on its release to the respective audiences.
o We
believe that the audience in questions of whom we targeted have yielded a
success because we believe that most of the public polls we have concluded to
the result that we are success because of the public response being promising
as a result of our announcement of the film and a part of its story line and
narrative to give the audiences a hint.

3. Using
Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign or Word, create an A4 draft version of the
film poster promoting your film. Your
film poster must consider film poster conventions and techniques by
including:
• Film
Title
• Tagline
•
Classification
• Billing
block
• Actors
names.
The techniques used with your poster should
also be appropriate for the genre of your film.
5. Show
your film synopsis, poster and storyboard to at least four members of your
potential target audience and get feedback via a short series of questions.
These could include :
-Being someone who has enjoyed the Blade
runner series I would find it interesting to watch a film that details the
life and the lore of the main protagonist the film focuses on, the Protagonist
in question is named Deckard hence the name of the film.
-The fact that the story is set around a
detective and a murderer the narrative Genre is clear to begin with
establishing that it as a genre under the category of Mystery. With the use
of the dystopian and dark setting of the future establishes to the audience
that it is under the category of Dystopian and the fact that it is supposed
to be set in an alternative future would demonstrate to the audience that is
under the category of Tech Noir.
-I would consider the fact the use of
symbolic design which is similar to the Blade runner Posters would have some
effect in the public sphere of things due to the fact that it is designed to
intrigue the audience who may be our potential overall audiences to follow up
on the film and perhaps even convince them to see the film.
-Is my main image effective?
My Audiences response to the film range as
the following.
“The film is like the missing Chapter of
the long and arduous lore of the franchise”
-Thomas O’Neil
“I like the way the film shed light on the
story of Deckard leading up to the point of him becoming the Blade runner and
his dealings with the Tyrell Company”
-Matthew Bryant
“The Change of story setting and the build
up to the Original with a more modern twist gives the film a more realistic
appeal especially when we learn of the way things came to be in the Blade
runner world in further detail”
-Patrick Keane
“The film was perhaps the first of the
franchise to solely focus on the main Protagonist as a posed to having the
film split into multiple stories at once”
-Rory Patterson
The Preview regarding alterations of the
film and the general narrative.
“I think the film should have some
character build up of those who the story relates around and how the setting
impacts them from a personal perspective”
-Michael Brooks
“The film is great way to establish the
basis and flesh out the lore of the narrative and its relation to the greater
story in relation to the blade runner series so I believe more needs to be
done in the overall build rather than focus on the Protagonist in question”
-Blake Gavin
From the views of the public perspective I
have concluded with my marketing team that certain adjustments need to be
made in order to help better sell the film to the overall audiences in the
sense. The Basis and the narrative and the context of the story needs to be
adjusted to help better sell to an audience of flexible minds, tastes and
interests. Overall, we have concluded that the story should be focusing on
the Lore of Deckard and build up the lore and story of the characters in
relation to the story and those whom Deckard interacts with in the films
story and narrative in the Franchises overall lore.
Task 3 – The Proposal
1.
The Film
poster is designed to catch the Eye of the Passer by with its strong use of
Neon colours and the use of Silhouette symbols to give the Poster more of an
Outlandish or (Neon Retro) as some refer to it now in modern terms. The Poster
will vary depending on the selection of which we go by. The first poster of
the first range will comprise of the silhouette of Deckard or shape of
Deckard running and the Skyline from the Film in the background and the
second of the first range will have Deckard appearing to be searching for
something in an inquisitive manner while not engaging in a direct mode of
address as the background comprises of the Skyline and a few characters from
the Film reminiscent of the Original films poster. The First of the second
range comprise of Deckard Running down a Dark Tunnel as two Shadow figures
chase with everything including the figures and Background being in Black and
white as Deckard is not, this is designed to contrast his significance to the
story to which we aim to captivate the audience by. The second but last of
the Second range is Deckard looking towards the Audience holding a badge and
torch and this being the only poster to have direct mode of address which
would help give a visual and a more of a positive impact to the Passer by as
striking them as if though Deckard is directly looking at them to which we
hope again that this is used to help boost the films reputation and popularity as well the knowledge of it
coming to the nearest Cinemas to the passer by who views the poster before
release to act as a promotion.
The Use of color is important with its
heavy use of neon blue, yellow, red, green and purple which is designed to
stand out to the audience and trigger the memory and nostalgia some may have
of the era when the film was released and the themes of which the film
displayed throughout its life time. The use of design being that of an
artificial style is designed to appear industrial, new age and rugged to that
of which is supposed to catch the eye of the passer by with its eye catching
design to who will see the poster to whom we hope to garner their attention
enough that they will be motivated to go and see the film.
2. Our
basis for example is inspired by the theory of Deckard being a replicant
being unanswered by the Ridley Scott as in one scene Deckard’s eyes glow for
a brief second which is the trait of a replicant. The Theory we will leave in
the film to help keep audiences hooked on the lore which may prompt them to
re watch the film at the cinema or purchase the film for home viewing. We may
also allow brief segments to be played online to help lure in further
audiences in the future as well. The use of fandoms we would encourage as
long as they benefit the film and the franchise which we would greatly
encourage we would take this a step further by hosting panels to the younger
audiences at Comic con conventions in London, San Diego and Las Vegas to help
boost the films popularity.
3. We
would Promote through Social Media, Television and Billboard for two reasons.
The first reason is that many younger audiences use social media and are
unlikely to access the other listed media apart from bill board which will be
able to reach multiple audiences including the younger audiences listed above
and the elderly audiences below. Television may not be something we would
pool all advertisements since it is a risk however many older people older
than 30 tend to watch television then that of their younger audiences. For
that Matter we would pool 60% of our adverts and promotions through social
media, 20% through Television and 20% through Posters and Billboards.
4. Sony
Picture would be our Distributors because they are considered professional
and they also have a grasp on international markets as well as films that
rely on Sony Pictures have a tendency to be more successful rather than other
distributes due to Sony Pictures having access and being more known by major
Cinema companies. Sony would be able to provide us the additional amount for our
film production knowing that the film we were producing under a budget to
which we can manage, and wont heavily dent their reserves if the film was
likely to flop.
A) Which of the following is it?
-Major studio Sony
studios which means larger budget thus meaning it will be in the distribution
of the mainstream cinema upon release
Genres: Science fiction,
Thriller, Mystery, Noir and Cyberpunk
-British studio: West
London Film Studios
Sony
Pictures owns Ericsson the telephone producer of electronics and
entertainment as well as Gaikai which is cloud based developer company. The
Countries Sony pictures have covered and distributes from are listed as
follows Japan, UK, Canada, USA and France to list but a few.
5. Explain
in detail what would make your
producer decide to fund your film idea
using the following as guidance: The main motivational factor for why our
film received funding from our Producer is listed as the following. The first
being the fact that Blade runner has always been a cult film and is usually
expected to make its money back in its worth of costs over a period of time
in its lifetime, this is also in relation to the recent release of the films
sequel being a minor success despite only grossing 150 million after its
release as well as the film costing just under 200 million in its development
(This does factor revenue from Merchandise and DVD release).
The second was the cast of new actors who
where not what would be referred as big names only for the fact that most of
the careers of the actors where of that as extras or large performances in
theaters as well as a few shows and perhaps even and Independent film.
The Third which ties into our second was
that due to the level of the actors currently in their careers was due to the
majority of the cast being newcomers into the acting industry this helped
with a decrease of costs and has been able to help us better appeal to our
producer. John Douglas who only earned his Title producer from his success of
his independent films such as (Sturm und Drang) and (Green Valley) which
grossed in their total combined roughly 80 million as well as 30 million from
minor projects over his career.
The fourth was the story and setting being
unlike that of the films prior being set in America the film sets itself in
the Old world or in other words England or more specifically in London. The
film itself was considered a change of scene for the series.
Task 4 – Evaluation
Complete an evaluation of your publicity
pack answering all of the following questions
1. What
do you think your audience's expectations of your film's genre are before
they watch your film? What are they expecting to see? (Plot, characters, events,
themes etc.)
2. What
do you want the emotional responses of the audience to your film to be? What
do you want them to think about? (Excitement, terror, sympathy, happiness,
laughter, social themes, relating to characters, etc.)
3. Is
your promotion pack (including poster, storyboard) an effective preview of
the content and preferred emotional effect of your film idea?
4. Did
your target audience suggest any strengths, weaknesses or things that would
be changed before the film version?
5. Can
you think of any changes to make your film more effective?
